The B3: Brouwer Trio composed by Jenny Guerra (violin), Elena Solanes (cello) y Carlos Apellániz (piano), is named in homage and acknowledgement of the internationally renowned Cuban composer, guitarist and conductor Leo Brouwer. The close relationship between the trio and Maestro Brouwer is noted in their numerous collaborations, specially in the dedicated composition of the works Cuadros de otra exposición and El Oráculo de Ifá.


The B3:Brouwer Trio is a group specialized in contemporary music. They have an outstanding international reputation fruit of their performances in important halls and festivals in Europe, Latin America and the United States. Critics have acclaimed their beauty of sound, individual virtuosity, clear and balanced chamber work, and flexible sense of rhythm.

The exchange with composers is a fundamental piece of the B3 philosophy. This work is the base of over 40 works dedicated to the group as well as myriads of performed premieres. Their dedication to music by young composers as well the education it provides for them in their residencies in international academies is outstanding.

During the latest seasons in Spain, they have executed numerous performances in different concert halls and festivals such as at the Palau de la Música de Valencia, Gran Teatro de Córdoba, Palau de Altea, Residencia de Estudiantes (Madrid), Fundación Juan March (Madrid), Fundación Oteiza (Alzuza, Navarra), Festival BBK Músicas Actuales (Bilbao), Festival “Ensems” (Valencia), Festival Nous Sons (Barcelona), Quincena Musical de Donosti (San Sebastián), Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea “Mostra Sonora de Sueca” (Valencia), Festival COMA (Madrid), Festival “Avui musica” (Barcelona), Festival Internacional de La Mancha, Jornadas de Música Contemporánea de Segovia, Jornadas de Música Contemporánea de Córdoba, IV Encuentro Nacional de Creación e Investigación Musical (Ciudad Real) and II Encuentro “Música, Tiempo, Razón” (Elche).



Their international tours include performances at the Concierto Homenaje a Leo Brouwer (La Habana, Cuba), Festival Internacional A tempo (Caracas, Venezuela), Centro Cultural E. Alemán Sucre (Valencia, Venezuela), Festival Internacional Encuentros (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Centre Catalá de Rosario (Rosario, Argentina), Sala Blas Galindo (México D.F.) and at the Centre of International Music Studies Le Mesnil des Arts (France). 

Their discography, concentrated in composers from Latin America and Spain, stands as their brand of recognition. The B3:Brouwer Trio has published the Benet Casablancas Piano Trios with Naxos, Pictures at Another Exhibition with Fundación Autor SGAE, The Beautiful Cuban Woman with Rycy Productions and has collaborated in publications such as Las sombras divinas with Verso, Old Havana with Rycy Productions, Estrenos en Concierto-Chamber Music with Rycy Productions, and Irremediablemente Bueno Aires music by Claudia Montero.

Recently, in celebration of their 15th anniversary, they have devoted their attention to multidisciplinary events (live painting, dance, theater, etc.) and promote research in the use of new music technologies (electronics, video, movement sensors, lighting, etc.) in their own productions. In the current year, they have premiered 12 works of composers from China, the United States, Sweden, Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico, and are preparing their upcoming CD.

Jenny Guerra was born in Havana, Cuba, where she finished her violin studies with the Título de Oro, at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory. She obtained degrees in viola and chamber music in Spain, at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona.

She has participated in master classes with renowned musicians such as Igor Frolov, Ruggiero Ricci, Gonçal Comellas, Michel Thomas, Pinchas Steinberg, Paul Cortese, Leo Brouwer and Harold Gramatges, among others.

She made her first recording at the age of ten for Cuban radio and television playing alongside Igor Frolov and, since then, has given recitals in Cuba’s most prestigious halls such as the National Theater, the Gran Teatro de La Habana, the National Museum of Fine Arts concert hall and the Carl Marx Theater, among others. A winner of the first prize and the special merit to the best perfomance of Cuban music in numerous editions of the Amadeo Roldán National Competition, she has participated in concert tours performing at the main concert halls abroad, in Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Greece and Morocco, as well as in recordings for Cuban, Mexican and Spanish radio and television.

Her interest for all musical genres brought her to collaborate in various recordings for several companies such as SONY, GHA and the Musical Documentation Center of Andalucia, with artists such as Silvio Rodríguez, Egberto Gismonti, Vicente Amigo, Joan Albert Amargós, Carmen Linares y David Peña “Dorantes”, as well as participating in movie soundtracks with Leo Brouwer, Carles Santos and Carles Casas, among others. Due to her dedication to the dissemination of Latin American music, her work not only involves the recovery of great classical works, but also the support of new musical creations by young composers from Latin America.

Jenny Guerra is founding member of the B3:Brouwer Trio, with which she has recorded several recording labels such as Fundación Autor (SGAE), Verso, and Rycy Productions, Inc., and regularly works as viola soloist with Ensemble Espai Sonor, with which she has recorded the CDs “Aureliano Cataneo” y “Voro García – Sombra del recuerdo” (Stradivarius label).

She is currently a member of the Orquesta de Valencia.

Carlos Apellániz

Born in Irun (Guipúzcoa). Began his musical studies at "l'Ecole Nationale de Musique Bayonne-Côte Basque" with pianist Françoise Doué, where he was awarded the Gold Medal. Perfects his musical training at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris (Villette), under the tutelage of Master Jacques Rouvier and Devoyon Pascal, where he was awarded the First Prize of Piano and the First Prize for Chamber Music unanimously. He continued his training at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia with Dimitri Bashkirov and Galina Egiazarov. He also has received advice from teachers like Alicia de Larrocha, Leon Fleisher, François-René Duchable, Dario de la Rosa, Emil Naoumoff, etc.

His strong professional background is supported by five international first prizes in piano and an uninterrupted professional activity that has led to performances in countries like Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, United Kingdom, Italy, Morocco, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, and ins prestigious concert halls like Palau de les Arts, Palau de la Música, Auditorio Nacional, Auditori de Barcelona, Palacio de Festivales de Santander, Salle Gaveau de Paris, Teatro Colon de Buenos Aires, etc.

He has recorded for Radio France, Radio Nacional of Spain, Euskadi Irratia, Radio Bremen, Radio Bartok (Budapest). He has recently recorded the albums "Caracter mediterrani" with music by contemporary Valencian composers and “John Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes for prepared Piano”.

He is a founding member of the B3:Brouwer Trio, with which he has recorded several recording labels such as Fundación Autor (SGAE), Verso, and Rycy Productions, Inc., and solo pianist of "Grup Instrumental de Valencia" with which he has won the National Music Prize 2005

He has taught as Professor of Piano at the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country Musikene, National School of Music in Bayonne (France) and different "Master Class" and summer courses, and he is regularely invited as a jury member in international piano competitions.

He is currently Professor of Piano at the Conservatory of Music in Valencia and the Conservatory of Music of Aragon.

Elena Solanes

Born in Cullera, in the Spanish province of Valencia, Elena Solanes studied cello at the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory in Valencia with Alejandro Abad, where she was awarded the Mercedes Massí Prize. She continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Stefan Popov and with Stephen Kates at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in the United States, with scholarships from the Comité Conjunto-Hispanoamericano, the Generalitat Valenciana and Spanish Ministry of Culture.

She has also studied cello and chamber music with renowned musicians such as Mischa Maisky, Raphael Wallfisch, Leon Fleisher, Manuel Barrueco, Imre Rohman, Robert McDonald, Charles Tunell, Jesse Levine, Berl Senofsky, and Ronald Thomas. She has performed in the main concert halls of Spain and has worked with orchestras such as the Orquesta de Valencia, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Winter Festival Orchestra, the Orquestra de Cadaqués and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana under the direction of maestros like Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, David Zinman and Neville Marriner.

Her international experience includes performances at the Cervantes Institute of Paris, the Binyanei Ha’Uma Theater in Jerusalem, the Tel-Aviv Mann Auditorium, Carnegie Hall, at the League of United American Citizens concert cycle in Washington D.C., the Neanderland Biennale “International Kammermusik” in Germany and a concert tour in Switzerland.

She holds a Chamber Music Degree and has performed with artists like Marc Lubotsky, Franco Petrachi, Rivka Golani, Earl Carlyss, Joan Enric Lluna and Renata Scotto, concentrating her chamber work on the B3:Brouwer Trio since 2009.

Elena Solanes has conciliated her performance career with an intense teaching activity, having taught at the Peabody Conservatory as Stephen Kates’ assistant professor thanks to the Piatigorsky Scholarship, and been a cello professor at the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory. She has given a large number of courses and master classes in the Comunitat Valenciana, as well as in Zaragoza, Lucena and the Canary Islands. She is currently a cello professor at the José Iturbi Conservatory in Valencia.
